The Epilepsy Support and The Information Center distributes a variety of educational brochures on epilepsy. Printed in the Arabic Language, these brochures are made available on request to individuals with epilepsy and their families, as well as to requesting Health Care Professionals. The information on this page is intended as a guide, particularly for non-Arabic speaking Health Care Professionals, to provide them with a basic understanding of the content on each available brochure.

Frequently Asked Questions 

Suitable for Primary Health care Providers or medical students, This booklet provides fundamental information about Epilepsy in a question and answer format.  Topics discussed range from the medical aspects of Epilepsy such as diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate First Aid techniques, to the social implications of Epilepsy, such as living and working with Epilepsy, and the types of people who live with Epilepsy.  The booklet also discusses briefly other disorders associated with Epilepsy.  This particular booklet is written with the healthcare provider in mind, but a similar pamphlet entitled “Questions and Answers about Epilepsy” is available for use by patients

Advice on Raising a Child with Epilepsy

This guide serves to help parents cope with a child’s Epilepsy.  It explains the disorder and how it can affect the lives of both parents and their children who live with Epilepsy.  Advice is provided about the issues affecting a child living with Epilepsy, both at school and at home.  Proper action to take in the event of a seizure is described and proper medication usage is explained.  The pamphlet also addresses concerns about swimming, working with the child’s doctor, and helps relieve unnecessary anxieties about the child’s future

Epilepsy and Pregnancy

Pregnancy can be a frightening and exciting time for any woman, but especially so for women living with epilepsy.  This guide provides essential information for achieving a safe pregnancy and delivering a healthy baby.  Serving to relieve unnecessary anxiety, the guide discusses planning a pregnancy, the event of seizures during pregnancy, using medication during pregnancy and the possibility of birth defects, and safe labor and delivery.  The guide further addresses postnatal concerns such as breast feeding, taking care of mother and child after birth, and teaching a young child about his or her mother’s Epilepsy

Febrile Seizures

This pamphlet discusses the occurrence of febrile seizures in children between the ages of six months and four years.  It describes the condition, its cause, the chance of reoccurrence, and how febrile seizures differ from Epilepsy.  The pamphlet tries to relieve unnecessary anxieties that parents might have about complications caused by febrile seizures.  Advice is provided about proper action to take in the event of a febrile seizure and how parents should monitor their child’s condition

Questions and Answers about Epilepsy (for patients)

This pamphlet answers common questions asked by patients about living with epilepsy.  Topics include appropriate action to take when someone has a seizure, how doctors treat epilepsy, and common questions about medication and living healthfully with Epilepsy.  The pamphlet also addresses the issue of driving with Epilepsy, employment, and schooling of children who live with Epilepsy.

A Child’s Guide To Epilepsy

This pamphlet explains Epilepsy in terms a child can understand.  It serves as a guide to teach children living with epilepsy about their disorder, and ways to make their lives as healthy as possible.  Activities are included to help children remember the name of the kind of seizure that they exhibit, the name of their medication and how it is to be used properly, and also appropriate first aid techniques to employ in the event of a seizure.

Epilepsy Medications and Dental Care

This pamphlet discusses various dental problems that may arise from use of Antiepileptic medications.  Essential information is provided about developing good dental habits to help minimize the occurrence of these dental problems

Antiepileptic Drug Wallet Cards

H12 folding cards that individually describe the proper use of theH12 available drugs used for treating Epilepsy.  Each card details the drug’s side effects, what to do if a dose is missed, and appropriate First Aid techniques.  A dosage chart is printed on every card, and the cards fold for convenient carrying in an individual’s wallet or purse
